A different take on using buttons for necklaces, I like this project as it is not immediately obvious that buttons have been used.
You will need
2-3m Embroidery cotton
Old flat buttons
- Thread a toggle style button halfway along the piece of embroidery cotton and tie four overhand knots.
- Thread the two ends of the cotton through two holes in a flat button and tie four overhand knots.
- Continue to add more buttons, repeating step 2, until you have the desired length. Either use buttons of a similar size or start with the smaller buttons and increase towards the centre, then decrease back out.
- To finish off, use a flat button with four holes, thread two ends through two of the holes. Tie several overhand knots until you have enough to form a loop that will fit the toggle button you started with. Then thread the two ends back through the other two holes in the button and tie off.
Keep your ends to either side of you to avoid getting in a tangle.
You may want to pin the end of the necklace to a cushion while working to hold steady.
