Christmas Crafts – Drying Orange Slices

Orange slices are a great natural alternative  for Christmas decorations, I’ll be using these for embellishing Christmas gifts and for some home made pot pourri.

What we used

Oranges
Sharp knife & Chopping board
Kitchen roll
Baking tray and parchment

What we did

  1. Cut the oranges into slices about 5mm thick, cut across the core for wagon wheel slices.
  2. Remove excess juice from the slices using kitchen roll.
  3. Place on parchment on a baking tray.
  4. Place somewhere warm, a wood burner or hearth is ideal for this, alternatively place in the oven on a very low heat.
  5. Leave until all the moisture has been removed and the slices are crisp.
This method also works for apple slices, cut the slices as thinly as possible. The apples curl up when dry and have a lovely star flower hole in the centre if you cut across the core. Perfect for home made Christmas pot pourri.
