Rag Crochet Basket Pattern

Crochet Rag BasketThis crochet basket started life as an old unwanted, slightly damaged voile curtain.

You will need

An old voile curtain
Size 12mm crochet hook
Scissors

 

How to

First of all you need to shred your voile curtain and roll into a ball. Cut the curtain length ways into strips approximately 2 – 3 cm wide. Approximately 2 – 3 cm from end stop cutting and begin cutting back the other way. Then you will have a continuous piece to work with. You will need to either round off corners or twist them in as you go along.

Chain four, slip stitch into first chain to form a ring.

Round 1
Three chain, eleven trebles into centre of ring (12 stitches) Slip stitch to join.

Round 2
Three chain, one treble into top of first treble. Two trebles into top of each treble (24 stitches). Slip stitch to join.

Round 3
Three chain, one treble into top of first treble. *One treble into top of next treble. Two treble into top of next treble. Repeat from * to end. Slip stitch to join.

Round 4
Three chain, one treble into top of first treble. *One treble into top of next two trebles. Two treble into top of next treble. Repeat from * to end. Slip stitch to join.

Round 5
Three chain, one treble into top of first treble. *One treble into top of next three trebles. Two treble into top of next treble. Repeat from * to end. Slip stitch to join.

Round 6 – 8
One treble into the top of each treble, Slip stitch to join.

Shell edging and handle.

You work around the first half of the rim with a shell stitch then crochet the handle, join handle and work second half of rim with shell stitch. Then work underside of handle.

Miss one treble stitch, work five trebles into top of next treble. Miss one treble stitch, work one double into top of next treble. Work around rim until you have six shells.

Begin working up the handle. *One treble into the top of the next six trebles. Turn and repeat 15 more times from *.

Join handle to opposite side of rim with a slip stitch.

Continue with Shell edging. Miss one treble stitch, work five trebles into top of next treble. Miss one treble stitch, work one double into top of next treble. Work around rim until you have six shells. Slip stitch to finish.

Fold the handle length ways and work along the underside with a slip stitch leaving a gap of two trebles each end.
