Granny style crochet is a great way of using up wool/yarn oddments, this hexagon crochet cushion pattern is one of my favourites.
You will need
Double Knit wool/yarn oddments
Size 3.5 Crochet Hook
16 ” Circular cushion pad
For one hexagon -
Chain 6 and slipstitch to join
Round 1 – Chain 3, 1 treble into centre, 2 chain, *2 treble into centre , 2 chain, repeat from *, 4 times, ss to join.
Round two – Chain 3, 1 treble into chain space, 2 chain, 2 treble in to same space, 1 chain *2 treble into next chain space, 2 chain, 2 treble in to same space, 1 chain, repeat from *, 4 times, ss to join.
Round three – Chain 3, 1 treble into chain space, 2 chain, 2 treble in to same space. 1 chain,* two treble into next chain space, 1 chain. 2 treble into next chain space, 2 chain, 2 treble into same chain space, 1 chain. Repeat from * SS to join
You will need 32 hexagons, join the hexagons together by substituting a chain stitch with a double in round three. The double is worked through the chain space of another hexagon.
Join the hexagons together working around one as your centre until you have 19 hexagons joined together. You then need to fold every other hexagon around the edge, in half, to begin to form the other side of the cushion cover.
Continue making and joining hexagons to form the reverse side of you cushion cover.
Leave a flap for putting the cushion pad in and out by not joining some of the hexagons.
Instead crochet a chain from one end of the opening. This needs to be long enough to weave these edges together and form a loop at the end of the chain. Sew a button to the other side of the opening and place the loop around it to join.
